New York Fashion designers enjoy sweet dreams, Texas style

New Waverly TX (July 17, 2009) – When New York fashion design duo Mark Badgley and James Mischka wanted a handcrafted bed for their Kentucky vacation home, they called on Shaka Studios Custom Furniture in New Waverly, Texas.  Badgley and Mischka, cited by Vogue magazine as one of “America’s Top 10 Fashion Designers”, chose the Shaka Studios cannonball bed.

“Badgley Mischka is a design house known for timeless design styles that use the finest fabrics and superior craftsmanship,” said Shaka Studios Shane Rodarte.  “Their philosophy of offering exceptional, well-made clothing is the same as our philosophy toward making custom-ordered furniture using the highest quality lumber and expert craftsmanship.  We appreciate that they recognized the quality that comes from our small town in Texas when they can shop anywhere in the world.

“Every item we make is handmade with great attention to detail,” said Rodarte.  “It doesn’t matter if you are celebrity or the couple next door; everyone receives the same great service and furniture from our shop.”

Shaka Studios replicates the traditional craftsmanship of Colonial and Early American furniture makers in furniture that follows the pristine simplicity of American Colonial and Shaker style pieces.  Each piece is custom-made, using the furniture design, wood and finishes selected by the customers.  The company’s signature multi-step painted finish is distressed, aged and crackled to mimic centuries of wear.

“The cannonball bed commissioned by Badgley and Mischka is made from solid pine and the custom solid black finish they selected for their bed fits in well with the designers’ sophisticated style,” Rodarte said.

Shaka Studios’ celebrity clientele includes actors Adrienne Barbeau and Billy Van Zandt.  Actor Tate Taylor said, “My Shaka Studios bed is so beautiful and stunning and envied by all my friends.  I travel a lot now and so hate sleeping anywhere else but on my bed.”  Taylor, who is best known for his role as Richie Miller on the television show “Sordid Lives:  The Series” goes on to say:  “Shane is a true craftsman and should be very proud of the work he does.”

Master craftsman Shane Rodarte opened his first furniture studio, Wood Designs, in Bryan, Texas at the age of 19.   Rodarte relocated to the Houston area in the 1990s and has been making custom furniture ever since.  Visit Shaka Studios on the web at http://ShakaStudios.com.
